Billings Increase in August
The Architecture Billings Index score for August was 55.6, up from the July reading of 54.6.
“The surge in design activity continued in August, signifying an expected upturn in construction activity in the fourth quarter and continuing into 2022,” said AIA Chief Economist Kermit Baker, PhD, Hon. AIA.
In August the Project Inquiries index was 64.7. The Design Contracts index was 56.6. Both were down slightly from the previous month though still in positive territory.
Regional averages moderated in August:
July | August | |
West | 59.7 | 57.2 |
South | 57.3 | 52.5 |
Midwest | 62.0 | 55.2 |
Northeast | 53.2 | 51.7 |
Baker continued, “This expected expansion will magnify the already serious problems of price inflation and availability of many construction products and materials, as well as the emerging labor shortages in the industry.”
