Billing Activity Contracts In November
The Architecture Billings Index score for November was 46.3, dropping 1.2 points from the October reading.
“In previous design cycles, we typically haven’t seen a straight line back to growth after a downturn hits,” said AIA Chief Economist Kermit Baker, PhD, Hon. AIA.
In November the project inquiries index was 52.0, down from 59.1 the previous month. The design contracts index was 48.6, down from 51.7.
Regional averages for November were mixed.
October | November | |
West | 50.4 | 48.3 |
South | 45.8 | 46.7 |
Midwest | 49.4 | 50.1 |
Northeast | 44.9 | 38.7 |
Baker added, “The path to recovery is shaping up to be bumpier than we hoped for. While there are pockets of optimism in design services demand, the overall construction landscape remains depressed.”
